P90X is a Great Workout For Those Already in Good Physical Shape

P90X is a workout craze that has taken the United States by storm. The main marketing implementation behind the P90X workout system is simple. If you use this for three months, or 90 days, you will get ripped, toned, and will lose weight. The strategy of this system is that by using it, you will ‘get ripped in just 90′ days. This strategy is certainly effective to bring people in.

But this is a work out system that is absolutely not for the faint of heart. Or for anyone who is very much out of shape, will have some trouble getting started. But persevere, it is a long journey, but one that is well worth it!

P90X Fitness Test

Getting successful results from the P90X system means working out every day of the week, 6 days of workouts and one option day of rest or stretching. Not only that, but you must work out for about 60-90 minuted each day. And, the workouts are incredibly intense. Before you start the P90X System, you are asked to take a fitness test so that you can determine where you are starting from and what your end goals are for the program. You are asked to take pictures and body measurements so that you know your starting point.

For each workout, there is a circuit format. You have to move from exercise to exercise without much rest in between. This keeps your heart rate up, which allows you to burn more fat. But throughout the video’s Tony Horton will tell you that you can pause at any time so that you can catch your breathe and keep your heart rate at a proper level.

There are strengthening DVDs which will target certain body parts each day. The workout DVDs go in a certain order so that you can maximize muscle confusion. There are DVD’s that focus on certain areas of the body so that each part of your body is built up equally. Other DVDs in the P90X workout system will focus on huge explosive movements. The system also incorporates cardio, abs and core, yoga, and stretching.

P90X Schedule

A typical P90X Schedule for the first 3 weeks:

  • Day 1: Chest & Back + Ab Ripper X
  • Day 2: Plyometrics
  • Day 3: Shoulders & Arms + Ab Ripper X
  • Day 4: Yoga X
  • Day 5: Legs & Back + Ab Ripper X
  • Day 6: Kenpo X
  • Day 7: Rest or XStretch

You will typically do this for the first 3 weeks, then the program will change to give you a rest full of all cardio and no lifting. That ends Phase 1. Phase 2 picks up on week 5-8 and Phase 3 is weeks 9-12. The first 3 weeks of each phase are a mix of cardio and lifting and the last week is all cardio.

Make no mistake, the P90X workout, is a tough program but you WILL see results. Often times people enjoy the program so much that they do it a couple times in a row. Even people who are 300lbs have done this workout program and lost a significant amount of weight.
